What to Wear to an Indoor Golf Simulator
Wondering what to wear to an indoor golf simulator? Here is the practical dress code for shoes, clothes, gloves, clubs, and first-time comfort.
Jun 8, 2026 · Club X Indoor Golf
Indoor golf does not need a formal dress code. Wear clothes you can swing in, shoes that grip, and nothing that damages the hitting mat. That is the practical answer.
At Club X, you will see golfers in golf pants, joggers, jeans, polos, hoodies, and athletic wear. Some members dress like they are heading to the course. Some public players show up after work. For most visits, comfort matters more than looking traditional.
Here is the full guide if you are booking your first indoor simulator session.
Shoes matter most
Wear athletic shoes, running shoes, or soft-spike golf shoes. The only hard no is metal spikes. Metal spikes can damage mats and flooring.
Good indoor golf shoes should:
- Let you rotate.
- Grip without sticking.
- Feel stable on a mat.
- Stay comfortable for the whole booking.
If you are choosing between dress shoes and running shoes after work, choose running shoes. If you have soft-spike golf shoes, those are fine too.
Clothes should let you rotate
You do not need a polo. You do need enough room to turn.
Good choices:
- Golf pants.
- Joggers.
- Athletic shorts.
- Stretch jeans.
- T-shirts.
- Polos.
- Hoodies or light layers.
Avoid anything that restricts your shoulders, hips, or stance. A tight blazer might look good at dinner, but it will not help a driver swing.
If you are coming for a date night or event, dress for the social setting and make sure you can still swing. Indoor golf can handle both.
Bring a glove if you use one
A glove is optional. If you usually play with one, bring it. If you do not own one, do not buy one just for your first simulator visit.
Beginners can swing without a glove. If your hands get sore or the grip slips, add one later.
Clubs are optional
Bring your clubs if you have them. It is always useful to practice with your actual set, especially for lessons or winter training.
If you do not have clubs, Club X has free club rentals 24/7. Premium club upgrades are available during staffed hours. This makes first visits easier because you do not need to borrow equipment or delay booking.
For bay details, see public play or the simulator rental page.
What to wear for lessons
For lessons, choose function over style.
Your coach needs to see posture, rotation, and movement. Wear something that lets you move naturally and does not hide every body line. A hoodie is fine, but if it is bulky enough to change your swing, choose a lighter layer.
Bring your own clubs if possible. Lessons are more useful when the coach sees the equipment you actually play.
If you are taking a TrackMan lesson, the lessons page explains the session flow.
What to wear for events
Private events and corporate nights are more flexible. Guests may arrive in business casual, event attire, or athletic clothes.
For corporate events, the safest move is business casual with shoes you can swing in. For birthdays or date nights, wear what fits the plan before and after the bay. If you are hosting, tell guests “comfortable shoes, no metal spikes” in the invite.
The activity is forgiving. The mat is not. Shoes are the only detail that really needs policing.
What kids should wear
Kids should wear running shoes and comfortable clothes. Avoid sandals, dress shoes, or anything slippery. If the child is attending a birthday party or family practice session, the goal is safe movement, not golf tradition.
Kid-sized club rentals are available, so juniors do not need their own set for a first session.
For junior-specific details, use the junior programs page. Some structured junior-program facts still need confirmation before final promotion.
What not to wear
Avoid:
- Metal spikes.
- Sandals.
- Slippers.
- Heels.
- Heavy boots.
- Clothes that restrict rotation.
- Jewelry that interferes with grip.
If you would not feel stable making a full swing, change the shoes.
Attire FAQ
Can I wear jeans?
Yes, if you can swing comfortably. Stretch jeans are better than stiff denim.
Do I need golf shoes?
No. Athletic shoes are fine. Soft-spike golf shoes are also fine.
Can I wear a hoodie?
Yes. If it is bulky, it may get in the way during a lesson, but it is acceptable for casual play.
Is there a dress code for the bar or lounge?
No formal dress code. Dress for comfort and the type of visit.
Book comfortably
If you have shoes you can swing in, you are ready. Read how Club X works, check the FAQ, then book a bay. If you are coming by car, review parking before you leave.
